I just got introduced to the world of “eyebrow threading”. Painful price to pay for perfect eyebrows. I went to check out the new place that opened in Yaletown “Bombay Brow Bar“. In less than 20 minutes you get perfect eyebrows, rose water brow massage, make up touch and chai tea!
Pretty genius concept….

Yaletown is quickly becoming the destination for single-service beauty boutiques – Blo gets your hair styled with a quick blow-dry, Noir Lash Lounge will fix you up with semi-permanent lash extensions, and now Bombay Brow Bar has joined the lot with Indian eyebrow threading.

I visited the small but plush brow bar on their opening day and the place was bustling, ambushed with the overgrown brows of walk-ins. Four armchairs inhabit the room – which keeps a steady flow of Bollywood videos playing, Indian Vogue on hand for reading, and delicious chai tea for sipping.
The master threaders are also schooled in waxing and tweezing, so although their specialty is threading you can opt for any removal process you like. I was in and out in 30 minutes, and what a difference a manicured brow makes.
Bombay Brow Bar does brows for boys as well, as well as eyebrow tinting.

We caught up with Ravy Mehroke, co-owner of Yaletown’s newest beauty haven BOMBAY BROW BAR. A quaint spot where you can sip on chai, grab a Vogue India, indulge in a brow massage and get perfectly threaded brows in less than 20 minutes.
Your inspiration behind the Bombay Brow Bar…Seriously, it’s our crazy obsession for brows and our major love for our super cool Indian culture. My sister Amy and I wanted to bring brow perfection using threading, and modern indian glam to Van City in a modern girly fun way. Our mother also plays a huge role in inspiring us to work hard to reach our goals and dreams.
How often should one get their brows done…Gorgeous eyebrows are definitely high maintenance. To maintain your brow shape, its every 2-3 weeks. For brow re-shaping, you would want to grow your brows out for about 4-6 weeks before get them shaped. The cool thing about threading is that we can precisely pick out individual hairs with minimum fuss to shape your brows, regardless of how big or small the hairs are.
Services provided…Bombshell Brows include brow gossip, brow shaping, calming forehead and eyebrow indian massage, soothing rosewater eye gel application, and brow finishing. We always offer a complimentary makeup touch-up upon request. Other services listed here.
Celebs with the best brows…Girl Brows to die for: Kim Kardashian – she has the most gorgeous brows ever! We love the arch, length, and fullness of her brows. Beyonce and Scarlett Johansson – drool, drool brows. Great length and perfectly complement their facial features. Jennifer Connelly – classic brows. Simply gorgeous. They are full and beautifully frame her eyes.
Uber cool boy brows…David Beckham and Johnny Depp – Ok, so not only are these guys super hot, but they have pretty amazing brows. David Beckham gets his brows shaped professionally. Ryan Seacrest is another cutie who also get his brows professionally shaped.
Who’s the Big Tweeze…Ranbir Mehroke, my husband is also a founding member and part of our “rock perfect brows” team. He’s responsible for ops and is another great reason and inspiration for starting our own business.
Best part of owning your own business…Working with my sister!! Also getting to be brow bosses and making sure women rock perfect brows 24/7.
Bombshell Brows cost $23. Bombay Brow Bar is located at 1056 Mainland Street, Vancouver, 604-683-BROW (2769). Open Monday to Sunday 10am-7pm, walk-in or book an appointment.

Did you hear? Yaletown has a new kid on the block and they do only brows.
They may be plucky, but when it comes to eyebrows, let the experts do them. The Bombay Brow Bar in Yaletown combines a traditional Indian hair removal method with a hefty dose of Bollywood beauty.

Threading is an ancient Indian skill that removes unwanted hair all the way to the roots using a cotton thread. The person performing the threading achieves amazing precision and control, making this the best way of shaping your eyebrows.

Located on Mainland Street just across from Glowbal Restaurant, the Bombay Brow Bar is open daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
As I mentioned in a prior post, I was very excited to see the signs up for the unique, very cute and convenient Bombay Brow Bar which was soon to be in Yaletown. I was even more excited when the super sister team of Ravy and Amy Minhas asked me to photograph the evening of their grand opening. I am happy to announce it is here and it is fabulous ladies! The space is bright, bold and super modern. It’s brow shaping, Yaletown style . The kindest staff welcomes you in and very quickly you are spoiled by their keen attention to detail. I was kindly offered a wonderfully yummy warm chai that comes from a special family recipe. Once my shoot was done I had a minute to sit back and relax on the plush pink seating while watching the Bollywood music videos and reading Vogue India. I was then treated to “Bombshell Brows” from the menu of services. What can I say? My brows look better than they ever have and you absolutely must try it for yourself.
The ladies at the Bombay Brow Bar have made brow shaping an spa experience. Here are some photos of the interior and of opening night-

The brow and temple massage. Lovely!
We may be plucky, but when it comes to eyebrows, we leave it to the professionals.
The new Bombay Brow Bar in Yaletown combines the traditional Indian hair removal method we love with a hefty dose of Bollywood beauty (which we also adore). Decked out in deep purples and gold, the lush space’s décor accents are a mix of blingy baubles (including bracelets you can buy) and standouts like the ceramic white elephant from the owners’ parents home.
After seeing a fair number of ladies leaving with perfectly manicured arches, we let our threading expert decide on our new brow shape and were thrilled with the results.
Time to trade in those tweezers for a standing appointment.

“I wanna rock with you” by MJ is the tune the team at Bombay Brow Bar should be jamming to all day long. With their recently opening on Mainland in Yaletown last Friday on February 5th, Ravy and Amy should be rocking out their their rocking brows.
No one can resist the brightly colors and ethnic appeal of Bombay Brow Bar’s decor. The instant you step inside, you feel like you’ve stepped into a Bollywood movie and you walk out feeling as gorgeous as Frida Pinto. Whether you have an appointment or are a walk-in client, you are welcomed with warm chai tea as the ladies prep for your service.
This being only my second time getting my eye brows rocked Indian style (i.e. threaded), I have to admit I was a little bit nervous. I remembered it stinging a bit the first time I had it done…But once I told my brow stylist that this is only my second time, she carefully talked me through ever step and with swift motions, I was already done!
My eye brows have never looked better! Being Asian, my eye brow hairs tend to stick up, especially at the base points of my brows, resulting in the usually mohawk style of my brows. But with some trimming, threading, and tweezing my brows knocked out the early-90′s punk trend and are now classy, clean and fabulous.
At $23 for a brow makeover, it is so worth it! The experience, the location and the time spent on the quality of your treatment goes a long way. Congratulations and great job! Can’t wait to rock my brows with you next time.

With the Olympics coming up, my dad and his business partner have been super busy at work. Sales training for Olympic investors/tourists has been taking up a lot of time which also means a pile of work for me back in the office. So you could only imagine my delightment when I found out I had a couple hours to spare this afternoon as they went for yet another meeting and I had NOTHNG to do. I could have went for a brisk walk over to LiveCity Yaletown to check out the venue or grab myself a medium size apple cider from my beloved Blenz….but then I remembered! Bombay Brow Bar!
BBB is the latest beauty addition in the gorgeous Yaletown and just opened their doors to us 2 days ago. Now to those who are not familiar, what’s great about BBB is they only service on one’s brows–And that’s it! Brows is the name of the game.
With my busy schedule these days, it is super hard for me to make time to see my personal esthetician. The last time I saw her was in late October so you can imagine the status my brows were in. I tried to keep up the shape she had given me but I knew if it was up to me…I’d probably have zero eyebrows by the time I was done. Anyhow, my brows were atrocious and I knew I needed help ASAP. So with the spare time I had today, I made my way over to this gem.
When I first stepped into BBB I was greeted by 4 beautiful ladies whom all greeted me with smiles and an attitude that made me feel comfortable and welcome. We all introduced each other to one another and then they discussed what kind of services they provided for ones eyebrows to me. In the end, I decided on their signature service, the Bombshell Brows ($23). Their signature service offers brow shaping by threading (or your choice of technique), a relaxing eyebrow/forehead massage with their rosewater eye gel (that helps soothe the redness after threading) and a free touch up on your makeup afterwards.
I for one, never tried threading as I’ve always been a waxing type of girl so the experience was definitely like no other. Everyone at BBB was very educational and being a threading virgin, they helped me feel at ease when the threading began. It’s the weirdest feeling ever and I actually got a bit scared that they might thread off my eye or something..but of course no loss of eyeballs ensued. From what I know, threading is a traditional method of hair removal that originated from the Middle East and India. Unlike tweezing or waxing, it is less painful and all hair is removed from a long strand of cotton thread from the root. Threading has more of a handle on precision if I a correct. It felt a tad pinchy at first but nothing I couldn’t handle.
The great thing about BBB is they actually care about the shape of your eyebrows and how it fits your face unlike some other places I’ve seen (but thankfully have not experienced). My BBB esthetician knew this worry of mine and helped create the perfect brow for me. Nothing too thin, or too shapey to make me look mad. Just the perfect arch that brightens up my face. I was definitely very happy with the outcome. I even had compliments on them when I got back to the office!
Now another thing I must compliment BBB on is the beautiful decor inside. BBB is definitely a girly’s girl type of place because the whole studio is splashed with pink…everything! Pink furniture, pink walls, pink backsplashes, pink curtains, pink anything you could ever imagine! My most favorite is probably their back wall with a pink wallpaper that is reminiscent of Anna Sui.
Bombay Brow Bar is ran by 2 sisters with the help of their 2 friends who are the threading masters. They are a team you definitely want to meet as you can definitely feel the love they have for their work and clients. I’ll probably still go to my personal esthetician for other beauty remedies…but BBB might just have won my heart in terms of keeping my eyebrows in check. Go visit the girls at 1056 Mainland, open daily from 10am to 7pm. Enjoy and happy brow-ing!
The result!
We usually head to Little India for taming and threading, but now we no longer have to trek far for those Bollywood brows.
At Bombay Brow Bar, we can have a cup of chai tea and a flip through Vogue India while waiting for an appointment. The Bombshell Brows ($23) service gives the choice to be waxed, tweezed or threaded – we decided on the latter, of course, an ancient technique to get Indian-chic brows. Eyebrow massages with rosewater gel and makeup touch-ups are included, and add-ons like the Browlicious Tint ($17) and the Bombay Bare ($49) ensure every little facial hair is looking its best.
Forget bending it like Beckham – we’re arching it like Aishwarya Rai.

I had the opportunity to check out Bombay Brow Bar (1056 Mainland Street), a new concept boutique specializing in shaping your brows but with Yaletown service style. Newly opened by sisters Ravy and Amy Minhas, Bombay Brow Bar brings in a Bollywood experience, with a Yaletown twist! Ravy is a business graduate from Thomson Rivers University, while younger sister Amy is a freshly trained esthetician from Vancouver Community College.
Bombay princesses and stylish mavens, your brow search is over. At Bombay, we’re not a spa. We have a major brow obsession – it`s all we do. Brow Sculptresses are trained to give you the ultimate brow experience. Sit back and relax in Bombay’s trendy Indian environment. Your Sculptress will consult on the shape, define your brow, treat you to an Indian brow massage with a soothing rosewater gel, and finish with a complimentary make-up touch-up.
So what are some Indian stereotypes that the sisters would like to bust? According to Amy, more often than not, Bollywood style services have been associated with tacky, overdone decor, clutter, and loud music. However, when I entered Bombay Brow Bar, I was very pleased with the classy decor. Magenta walls, with patterned wallpaper from the UK. The decor of this cozy boutique fits right in with Society Dining Lounge and Blo Blow Dry Bar. Four plush chairs for clients to sit in, a gold framed mirror, a plush window seat with cushions….true to the vision of the Minhas sisters, the furniture makes you feel right at home. The “Bombay Loft” as Amy calls it!
On one side of the boutique, a shelf of square shelves is up against the wall with tasteful Indian artifacts positioned right in the center of each cubical: a rack of colorful bangles, folded pashminas, an elephant artifact, a silver vase… Some of these items came right from their home, to add to the welcoming environment the sisters envision Bombay Brow Bar to be. They want to share with Vancouver their living room, and bring a piece of their Indian culture and values to the rest of the world.
For $23, get your eyebrows sculpted, arched and groomed. Each esthetician is trained with a “3-point technique” to get the eyebrow shape which compliments your face. They also explain to you what they are doing, while they are doing it. Feel free to ask questions, or tell them to stop or slow down. They are very patient – it’s all about customer service. And you can choose the technique used on your brows – threading, waxing and tweezing. I would personally recommend getting your eyebrows threaded for a very precise, sharp line. With wax, it’s hard to get out the smallest hairs, and you don’t want saggy eyelids from getting your eyebrows waxed too often.
Sometimes my eyes start watering and my eyeliner/mascara starts running when I get my eyebrows threaded. At the end of the 20 minute “treatment”, you can always ask for a complimentary make-up touch up. In conclusion, Bombay Brow Bar is a perfect fit in Yaletown “beauty lane”. If you don’t mind paying a price premium (hey, it’s Yaletown!) at a clean, trendy boutique, and you like to be surrounded by beautiful decor, Bombay Brow Bar will be the right fit for you!
